Yoga & Scoliosis: An Individualized Approach

Scoliosis involves spinal curvature, and people with scoliosis can have very different presentations, symptoms and treatment plans. A generic sequence cannot account for all of those differences.

Yoga is not a scoliosis diagnosis or treatment plan

If you have known or suspected scoliosis, use your medical team's guidance to understand your condition. Yoga therapy can focus on individualized movement, awareness, props and adaptations within an appropriate scope, but it should not be presented as a replacement for medical assessment.

Questions to bring to an individualized session

Share your diagnosis, current symptoms, relevant medical guidance, prior injuries and movements that aggravate or ease symptoms. This gives an instructor or yoga therapist better context for modifying practice.
